Call for Articles: Oral History and Gender

The Tijdschrift voor Genderstudies ('Journal for Gender Studies') wants to dedicate a special issue to the use of oral history in gender studies. Dutch and English proposals for articles are welcome (Dutch preferred).

News from the archival department

Since February of this year, Aletta received 14 (parts of) archives and collections. One of those was the archive of the Josine de Bruyn Kops Foundation (Stichting Josine de Bruyn Kops) dedicated to improving the position of female artists. As the Women’s Documentation Centre in Nijmegen sadly has to close, they also donated archives their archives from local and regional women’s organizations.

The Josine de Bruyn Kops foundation was established in 1989 by Carry van Lakerveld , Adelina Suzanna de Sitter , Liesbeth Brandt Corstius en Dirk Hendrik Couvée. EU DAPHNE project Neskak Gora

On the 24th and 25th of May, Aletta hosted its project partners from the Neskak Gora project, which investigates the experiences of discrimination and violence among young second generation migrant women with in Europe, to discuss the project findings and output.

Renovation Aletta's new location begins

A life-size image of Aletta Jacobs hangs prominently on the 'De Vijzel' building in the centre of Amsterdam. Why? Aletta, Institute for Women's History, has begun renovating her future home at Vijzelstraat 20. Following an extensive search process, Aletta has found a beautiful new location in downtown Amsterdam.

Before the 1st of October 2011, a completely new library, archive and information centre for the history of women and the women's rights movement will open her doors.
