IFRWH Conference at Aletta, 25-27 Aug 2010

The International Federation for Research in Women’s History (IFRWH) was established in 1987, with the aim to encourage and promote research in all aspects of women's and gender history at the international level.

It organizes regular conferences and publishes a biannual newsletter, and is an affiliated organization of the International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS). The next IFRWH Conference will take place in Amsterdam, August 25-27, 2010, in conjunction with the 21st International Congress of Historical Sciences, 22-28 August 2010.

LOCATION: Aletta – Institute for Women’s History, Obiplein 4, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The theme of the conference is 'Unequal Sisters: Women, Gender, and Global Inequalities in Historical Perspective'. The conference organizers received around eighty paper proposals and sixteen full panel proposals from over 25 countries. Barbara Caine (Monash University, Melbourne, Australia) will deliver the keynote speech on “The Trials and Tribulations of a Black Woman Leader: Lillian Ngoyi and the South African Liberation Struggle, c1950-1980.” The program further consists of eighteen panels, distributed over three days. One panel will take place in the Jewish Historical Museum. The final program, including evening events, will be available on the Aletta website and the website of the IFRWH from May.
